    Ngorongoro Crater

I had been dying to go to Ngorongoro Crater for years. I was hiking Kili, and I knew I had time to make a day trip there. It’s rather expensive, but I figured I had to take advantage of the opportunity and just do it. Given that I decided this while I was still on top of Kili, I used Pristine Trails again for this adventure. Pristine was incredible with setting everything up, and ensuring I had a great experience. They were even very transparent about the pricing of the trip, which I really appreciated. The driver/guide picked me up from Kili and drove me to Arusha for the…

    Kilimanjaro

I’ve been wanting to hike Kili for years. I lived in a township in South Africa for a few months and really thought I would climb it then, but I never made it. So, when someone asked if I would be up for hiking, I jumped at the chance. My friend Diana got us together and planned it through Pristine Trails. Pristine was amazing – and I recommend you using them! They made us all feel completely taken care of and safe. The guides and porters were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. I can confidently say the experience would not have been the same without the great team at Pristine. I…

    Morocco

We had the most incredible trip to Morocco. We flew into Casablanca, took a train to Fes, then did a three day excursion through the desert, and spent the last two days in Marrakech before flying back home. Everyone kept saying there’s not much to see in Casablanca, and they’re right. We included it in our itinerary – but trust me – you can skip it. We walked around a bit, went to lunch, and then hopped on a train to Fes. A bit of insight into Moroccan trains: they’re very old school. There was no air conditioning, the announcements were not in English, and our train broke down.…

    Zanzibar, Tanzania

I was spending some time in Nairobi, so I decided a little getaway to Zanzibar would be a fun adventure. We stayed at the Protea Hotel Zanzibar Mbweni Ruins, which is a part of the Marriott hotel group. It’s on the west side of island, very close to the airport, and only 15 minutes from Stone Town (the downtown area of Zanzibar’s main island). The hotel was very nice, and perfect if you want to use hotel points. If you’re looking to explore more of the island, or a very luxurious hotel, there are some other options all around the island. We arrived late in the evening, so when we…

    Nairobi, Kenya

I absolutely love Nairobi. I think it’s such a cool city, in the heart of Africa. So many big companies (Barclays, McKinsey, etc.) have offices there, yet it’s still very much an African city. The dynamic is spectacular and really speaks to me. I went to Nairobi to work with a non-for-profit for a few weeks, but I was lucky enough to see some Nairobi highlights while I was there. I took a day to do some fun animal visiting. First we went to an elephant orphanage. It was one of the cutest things I’ve ever done. I am vehemently anti-zoo, but this elephant orphanage rescues and rehabilitates elephants at…
