    Isle of Skye, Scotland

After living in London for over a year, I realized I have not explored any other bits of the UK. My good friend and I decided to go the Isle of Skye in Scotland for a few days this past week, and it was absolutely gorgeous. We took the train from London to Glasgow and rented a car to drive from there to the island. It was about a five and a half hour drive from Glasgow, but it’s a very pretty drive so not too bad. We stayed in Portree at a lovely B&B called the Caledonian Hotel. Whenever I have a wonderful stay at a hotel, it makes a…

    Penang, Malaysia

After my Indonesia trip, we went to Penang, Malaysia for a few days. To be honest, we didn’t do much research about Malaysia before we got there, so we were incredibly surprised when we arrived. The city was filled with really nice looking high-rise apartment buildings and there seemed to be a decent amount of wealth. We were staying in George Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage area, so it looks quite different than the very much city areas we passed on our way there. We stayed at the Yeng Keng Hotel, and it is a huge part of the reason I fell in love with Penang. The…

    Bali & Flores, Indonesia

I went with a few friends to Bali and Flores in the end of June. We were told it was dry season, and according to every source it is indeed dry season, but it poured and poured and poured every day for us. We got a few hours here and there of no rain, so we would get out and try to do a few activities (and a some instagrammable pictures 😉 ). We stayed at the Dipan Resort in Seminyak, Bali. It was perfect for us. I would say it was more of a budget option, but it was still very nice. Given there were enough of us, we got…

    Zermatt, Switzerland

Hiking in Switzerland had been high on my bucket list. There are so many beautiful places to hike in Switzerland, so I wasn’t sure where to go first. I decided on Zermatt because I had read the most about Zermatt and Matterhorn. Ideally, I wanted to try to summit Matterhorn, but it’s quite technical so another time! High season for hiking in Zermatt in mid to late June through the middle of September. I was hoping it would be cheaper since it was technically out of season, but it was still pretty pricey. I flew into Zurich and took the train to Zermatt, but you can also fly into Geneva…

    Singapore

It stormed a majority of the whole time I was in Singapore, so I wasn’t able to do all of my itinerary (MacRitchie Reservoir Treetop Walk and Lazarus Island), but I still got to do some exploring! The first day I got there, I immediately went to Din Tai Fung, as all of my friends recommended. I actually think they’re in the States now too, but I’d never been and really enjoyed my salad and soup dumplings! From there, I walked to Marina Bay. It stopped raining by the time I got to the Marina, so it was nice to walk around and enjoy how beautiful Singapore is. Across…

    Canary Islands, Spain

I went with my family to Tenerife, not expecting the best weather in early April, but we got pretty lucky. It was warm enough most days to lay by the pool, and while it was freezing, we even went into the ocean. We stayed on the south side of the island, and to be honest, we didn’t do much exploring. I had wanted to do some hiking while we were there, but it was nice to just completely relax and unplug. One morning we went for a run along the water in Alcalá, which has gorgeous black sand beaches. The only other “activity” was going into San Juan town for really…

    Ngorongoro Crater

I had been dying to go to Ngorongoro Crater for years. I was hiking Kili, and I knew I had time to make a day trip there. It’s rather expensive, but I figured I had to take advantage of the opportunity and just do it. Given that I decided this while I was still on top of Kili, I used Pristine Trails again for this adventure. Pristine was incredible with setting everything up, and ensuring I had a great experience. They were even very transparent about the pricing of the trip, which I really appreciated. The driver/guide picked me up from Kili and drove me to Arusha for the…

    Kilimanjaro

I’ve been wanting to hike Kili for years. I lived in a township in South Africa for a few months and really thought I would climb it then, but I never made it. So, when someone asked if I would be up for hiking, I jumped at the chance. My friend Diana got us together and planned it through Pristine Trails. Pristine was amazing – and I recommend you using them! They made us all feel completely taken care of and safe. The guides and porters were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. I can confidently say the experience would not have been the same without the great team at Pristine. I…

    Slovenia

I had heard hiking in Slovenia was spectacular, so I convinced two friends to take a trip out to Slovenia. We flew in and out Ljubljana, so spent a night on each end of the trip there. I definitely recommend renting a car in Slovenia. It’s not expensive, it’s the same side of the street that I’m used to (driving on the right side), and the signs and roads make it an easy country to drive in. I’m sure it’s not that difficult to get from Ljubljana to Lake Bled via public transportation, but it definitely made it easier and there were a few other spots we went that I’m…

    Champagne, France

A bunch of us decided to go to Champagne in France on weekend, as it’s not that far from London. We left London Friday morning around 6:30am, took a bus to Dover, took the ferry from Dover to Calais, and then drove to Reims. It was a time consuming trek for sure, and I don’t recommend it. But, it was fine for a group of us on a budget. We were staying the weekend in Reims, so when we arrived we did a tour of Reims. It’s a cute little French town, but not much there. The next morning, we started off early at the most beautiful vineyard, Champagne…
